Overview
To be involved in this project was very much an honour; the Maggies Trust provides beautiful homely spaces for cancer sufferers and their friends and family to go to to find some peace, support and escape from their treatment and the general stress of dealing with cancer.
The Robert Parfett Building which houses Maggies Manchester was a personal tribute by Lord Norman Foster, the locally grown but internationally known architect. Foster + Foster created a stunning and iconic design which brings a truly tranquil escape from the cold, clinical hospital buildings.
Challenges
The biggest challenge was the impressive yet meticulous details put to the design by the architects. Margins were absolutely minimal, and with the focal aesthetic of the lines drawn from the cladding being paramount to the overall visual impact of the building, it was a crucial detail to perfect. There was to be no joins in the lengths of the cladding so cutting lists and planning were imperative to making sure that each section was installed correctly.
