Overview

Located at the gateway to Manchester’s Northern Quarter and a short distance from Victoria Station, Hotel Indigo Manchester – Victoria Station is a 187-room boutique hotel offering luxury city centre accommodation. The project comprised a cylindrical new build rotunda tower alongside the refurbishment of the Grade II listed City Buildings, incorporating hotel bedrooms, bar and restaurant spaces, and ground floor commercial units. The scheme carefully aligns contemporary architecture with the historic fabric of the listed building, creating a prominent landmark between the city’s main shopping district and the emerging NOMA area.

Challenges

The project required close coordination between new build and heritage refurbishment works, with particular attention to maintaining architectural continuity across old and new structures. Specialist joinery elements had to integrate seamlessly within the Grade II listed building while also meeting modern performance, fire, and acoustic requirements. The curved geometry of the rotunda introduced additional complexity, demanding precise manufacture and installation to achieve the required quality and finish throughout.
